Who's at the refuge, and when

Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge protects the marshes and old salt ponds at the south end of San Francisco Bay. Some birds live here year-round. Many more stop on their way up and down the coast.

Using public sightings from eBird, iNaturalist and others, we counted how many times each of the 296 birds and mammals on the refuge's checklist has been reported here in each month. Each line below is one species, darker in the months it's seen most. Click a band or a month to look closer.
